Dr. Earl Aliparo, PT, DPT, Orthopedic Clinical Specialist
Owner and founder of Orthostrength Physical Therapy
In the fall of 2006, my teammate tore his ACL while catching a long pass in a rivalry high school football game. After undergoing an ACL reconstruction, I asked him what the next step was for recovery so he could return to playing football again. He answered that he was going to physical therapy, where he was learning how to move, exercise, and then progress to football-specific drills in order to return to playing. It was my senior year, and as an athlete for most of my life, I found my calling in helping other athletes. This marked the beginning of my journey with the goal of becoming a Physical Therapist. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Kean University in 2011 and applied to physical therapy school with the hope of assisting people after sports injuries.
In 2014, I earned my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Long Island University – Brooklyn Campus and embarked on my career. I was excited and eager to learn from experienced therapists and help as many people as possible to become the best clinician I could be. However, a harsh reality set in when I started working at a private outpatient clinic that was exceedingly busy, with the expectation of treating anywhere from 3 to 4 patients per hour, followed by countless hours of documentation after my shift. Due to time restrictions, I couldn't provide the focused or individualized care that my patients deserved. Consequently, I resigned from that outpatient clinic within months due to burnout. This experience led me to apply to a hospital-based outpatient clinic.
Over the next few years, I was able to hone my clinical skills, learn from other clinicians, and treat fewer patients per hour, allowing for more focused treatment. I also had the opportunity to treat patients with different diagnoses and presentations in various settings such as brain trauma, acute care, acute rehabilitation, and even home-care. This invaluable experience provided me with the ability to guide patients through the full spectrum of the healthcare system. In 2020, I achieved the status of being a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. Through reflection and goal setting, I came to realize that I truly enjoyed working with patients with sports and orthopedic injuries.
I aspired to utilize my knowledge and experience to work with active adults and athletes. My vision was to treat individuals who aimed to enhance their movement or return to sports without limitations. It was crucial to me that my patients felt that their Physical Therapist had spent the necessary time to assess their issues, comprehend their goals, and implement solutions that foster lifelong resilience. I wanted my patients to be assured that they were working with someone who empathized with their situation and was dedicated to helping them reach their desired outcomes. This concept gave rise to the concept of Orthostrength Physical Therapy.
In the fall of 2020, I took the leap to pursue my vision and founded my patient-centered practice. This was the path for me to fulfill my passion and answer my calling to help people reclaim their lives and take ownership of their movement.
